Mounjaro® pricing changes

From the 1st September 2025 the price of Mounjaro® injections will increase significantly for those buying it privately. We understand this may cause difficult decisions to be made for those currently purchasing the injection.

Unfortunately the limitations to who may be able to get the injection on the NHS for weight loss have not changed.

There are very strict criteria for those who are eligible and this will only be a small number of people. For example at our practice of almost 16,000 patients this will only be about 20 people.

In the first year, Mounjaro® is only available to patients who have:

  • A BMI of 40 or more (adjusted for ethnicity)
  • At least 4 of the following health conditions:
    •   type 2 diabetes
        high blood pressure
        heart disease
        obstructive sleep apnoea
        abnormal blood fats (dyslipidemias)
  • Or where urgent weight loss is needed for critical surgery or treatment

If you’re from a South Asian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean background, the BMI threshold is slightly lower – 37.5 instead of 40.

Please avoid contacting the practice to ask for Mounjaro® if you do not qualify for the injections. Sadly on the NHS, we are unable to prescribe this for you.

If you are not eligible for Mounjaro® on the NHS at the current time, we can offer you referral and advice with regards to weight management.
